The shelters are packed, and, in an effort to get good pets into good homes, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona is holding a '70s-themed adopt-a-thon. From 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 1 and 2, the HSSAZ, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., offers free food and music, training demos and a drawing for a Wii Game System. All day Saturday there will be a classic VW display.
The focus, of course, is matching pet to parent, and to help lighten the financial load the shelter is offering adoption specials for all cats and mixed-breed dogs. Each adopter will receive other perks, such as a free photo with that new bundle 'o love.
