Although Microsoft's acquisition of FAST Search & Transfer may disappear in the annals of tech M&A because it was succeeded just over three weeks later by its attempt to buy Yahoo (unresolved at the time of writing), it was its fourth-largest deal in its history and its largest enterprise software deal since its $1. With the second largest search pure play heading into Microsoft's clutches, and with IBM, Oracle and SAP already having plans in place, it would seem there are few attractive targets in enterprise and even fewer prospective buyers. Or are there?
