The Olympics... seems like forever ago, and in fact it was. Most have moved on to other things like hurricanes and vice presidential teenage pregnancies. Pedro Martinez returned to New York to work out this week at Shea with his trainer, Chris Correnti,who already has been supervising Billy Wagner. Speaking of the injured closer, he may take this mound this afternoon for a side session. If Wagner actually does, it will be a landmark day in his comeback attempt -- good or bad. Ok, so I'm not going to gloat after last night's amazing win because every time I gloat the team immediately goes in the tank. But can someone please explain to me why these two teams don't play each other a single time in the last 3 weeks of the season? Did no-one at MLB get the memo that this is the best new rivalry in baseball? Did no one see any of the epic battles these two had last year? Did no one really think that these two teams would really be fighting it out for the pennant come September?
