Ubuntu is more than Linux

Ubuntu is more than Linux

Today, we went to the beautiful Nappa valley north of San Francisco. That’s where all the wineries are. And we had absolutely delicious vegetarian food in this restaurant named “Ubuntu” in Nappa. It’s the kind of vegetarian food that does not try to emulate meat yet is really, really tasty, once you get past the menu. Who would have thought that a pizza with strawberries would easily make it onto my “best pizzas ever” list?

2008-06-23 Hardware Random Number Generator Useful

If you have a system machine generating various cryptographic keys, you really need a non predictable state in your entropy pool. To reach a satisfied level of unpredictability, the Linux kernel gathers environmental information in order to feed this famous entropy pool. Of course gathering enough unpredictable information from a deterministic system, it's not a trivial task. In such condition having an independent random source is very useful to improve unpredictability of the random pool by fe...

Ville-Pekka Vainio: The Linux/FOSS desk at Assembly Summer 2008 - with Fedora

I’m currently blogging from the Assembly demoparty in Helsinki, Finland. The Finnish Linux User Group and the user communities of different distributions have organized a Linux/FOSS support desk here. Toshiba To Launch An Eee PC Killer?

Toshiba To Launch An Eee PC Killer?

Our good friend David Flynn over at APCMag got himself a bit of a scoop chatting with Mark Whittard from Toshiba - apparently they're seriously planning to launch an Eee PC killer in the near future. Although there's very little info about the device at all, Mark did say that it would most likely feature a nine-inch screen, feature a (relatively) large SSD drive, run on an Atom processor and run Windows rather than Linux. Interestingly, Mark used the apparently used the term ULPC to describe the...
