Online Music Discovery in Action

Online Music Discovery in Action

An anecdote from my weekend. First, a cut to the moral: Online music discovery is largely about architecture within and across sites, personal connections and serendipity. Focus exclusively on algorithms and radio streams at your peril. Between about 1988 and 1992 I worked at a record store. My boss there was a cool local musician friend [...]

Tuesday's new music: U2, The Walkmen and Neil Halstead

Tuesday's new music: U2, The Walkmen and Neil Halstead

It's Tuesday which means today's the day for new CD releases / downloads, etc. A couple that have caught my attention: U2's new self-titled six-disc deluxe edition box set. The set, sold exclusively by Amazon (Island, $79.98) includes expanded, remastered two-disc versions of the band's first three albums, "Boy," "October" and "War." Each bonus disc includes B-sides, live takes and other rarities. There's also room in the set for a fourth, as yet-to-be-released album. Also out today, The Walkmen...

Rock Band Weekly: Nine Inch Nails and Shinedown

Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Online, Rhythm Although we'd gotten used to three songs being added every week to Rock Band's music store, Harmonix told us this week a little bit more could become the norm as the developer pushes to have 500 songs by the end of the year. This week, the band Trent Reznor built and Shinedown add some songs to the library. James read and enjoyed how carphone warehouse took my iphone & ruined my credit rating

Last Friday I queued up with all the other early adopting Apple fan boys to collect my new 3g iphone on launch day. I took photos of it. I hyped it. I even taught my two year old to say "daddy gotted iPhone" in anticipation of my shiny new toy. As of a short time ago, I no longer have that iPhone and have a ruined credit rating to boot. Here's what happened... I'd pre-ordered from Carphone Warehouse which, when 02 ran out of stock prior to the launch, still had a few of the 16gb version availabl...

The iPhone 3G reviews are in: It's pretty good

Apple.comWalt Mossberg (WSJ), David Pogue (NYT) and Edward Baig (USA Today) have been using the new iPhone 3G for a couple of weeks now, and today they all dish on their experiences. They were all fans of the first model, and they're pretty happy about the new model's new features. The reviewers say the phone's 3G network access leads to a much zippier Internet experience, that its audio quality has been dramatically improved, and that it cozies up to Microsoft's corporate e-mail system. But the...

iPhone App Review Marathon Liveblog [IPhone Apps]

There are a total of 552 different apps in the iPhone App Store right now. We're going to do live impressions of the best ones (and some really, really lousy ones if they're interesting enough). Post requests in the comments and check back frequently cause we're updating as we go review more apps. Twitterific: Works just like the desktop version of Twitterific (it gives you access to Twitter), and also uses the iPhone's location-aware features to geotag your tweets. What it doesn't do, like Twin...
