Hurricane Gustav Makes Landfall 70 Miles Southwest of New Orleans

Hurricane Gustav made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane about 70 miles southwest of New Orleans, coming ashore after days of massive evacuations. The storm, which came ashore around 11 a.m. ET, brought heavy rain and maximum sustained winds of 110 miles an hour. Damage to energy infrastructure was seen as less than feared.
